A belated update!
We've been so busy taking care of lots of new arrivals at the farm over the last few months that the blog has been neglected! There is a photo gallery called '2017 babies' showing all of our young animals.
We have had two litters of British Landrace piglets, some of which have already been sold, some will be grown on at school for pork, and four were good enough to be selected to keep as potential breeding animals. They will compete against other pigs at agricultural shows across the summer and then sold to breeding homes in the autumn.
We have also had four purebred North Ronaldsay and two crossbred lambs, three ewes and three rams. Blackwell April and Blackwell Amira will join the breeding flock while the three boys will be grown on for 15 months before going to the butchers as hoggett (lambs aged up to 18 months old). Karen the crossbred lamb has a valuable black fleece so she will also stay in the flock.
We have hatched some chicks and one even hatched while Colmers school was here, so we've called her Colleen! We also have baby quail and a new (adult) rescue guinea pig called Buffy.
